2012 Season Rule Change

Unlike 2011, the new rules introduced in 2012 are not as significant as last year. The only changes to the rules are the nose height and the ban on blown exhaust.

Both rules changes are evident in the appearance of the cars this year.

Blown Exhaust is a technology that was developed in the mid 2010 season, and it was heavily explored in F1 in the 2011 championship season. Many cars designs were based on the blown exhaust technology last year, especially Red Bull and Lotus Renault. With the ban of blown exhaust this year, F1 teams are forced to return to the design concepts of 2010. We will see whether Red Bull still has the performance edge this year, or perhaps McLaren and Ferrari’s development have surpassed Red Bull during the winter break?

The pre season tests will give us a clear view on where each team is approximately.

Preseason Odds:

It is way to early to consider who will win the driver’s and constructor’s championship at this stage. However it is not a bad idea to look at what the odds are.

Driver’s Championship:

  • Vettel   2.10
  • Alonzo  5.00
  • Hamilton  5.50
  • Button 7.00
  • Webber 12.00
  • Schumacher  41.00
  • Rosberg 41.00
  • Massa 51.00

Constructor’s Championship:

  • Red Bull  2.00
  • Ferrari  6.50
  • McLaren 2.50
  • Mercedes 26.00
  • Lotus Renault 67.00

The odds here are heavily biased towards the result from last year. Remember it is a brand new season and brand new cars. It is likely there will be fair changes in the odds at the conclusion of the final winter testing session. We will see what the odds will be in a few weeks time!
